painful assignmentitis

  • Sep. 18th, 2008 at 9:25 PM

well, having to do uni work is a pathology isn't it?

it's especially annoying when your internet breaks the night before an assignment is due and half your references are from google books :( however one thing our uni actually does really well is the whole information common things. I have 24 hour free internet access within walking distance of my house now, and i can come here to submit assignments, which is v. convenient if i finish them just before they are due because it takes like all of 5 mins to ride here.

although the downsides are that when i got here there were like a hunderd people randomly crowding around in here ( if i hadn't brought my laptop i wouldn't have got a computer) and it was about 30 degrees. now they hace cleared out and the air conditioning seems to have started working, making it slightly too cold. And there are a lot of random drunen crossdressers (possibly a year 12 scavenger hunt or a buck's night or something??) in civic park i have to walk past to get in and out of here.

anyways, i should actually write this thing now i've got access to stuff...

A. Find your favorite music player with a randomizer (iPod, iTunes, WinAmp, etc.).
B. Go through the next fifteen songs, and write down a random line or two. Skip instrumentals (of course) or songs where the title is in the firstline.
C. Post them on your journal and have your friends guess the titles.

you are turquoise
#40E0D0

Your dominant hues are green and blue. You're smart and you know it, and want to use your power to help people and relate to others. Even though you tend to battle with yourself, you solve other people's conflicts well.

Your saturation level is higher than average - You know what you want, but sometimes know not to tell everyone. You value accomplishments and know you can get the job done, so don't be afraid to run out and make things happen.

Your outlook on life is bright. You see good things in situations where others may not be able to, and it frustrates you to see them get down on everything.

I aten't dead

feels like forever since i've posted on here, hence the subject. For a quick update, working most days but usually only 4 or 5 hour shifts. Today we got evacuated because there was a fire somewhere in the centre but not near Big W (apparently it was in a toilet? we don't know for sure), which was exciting except for the sitting outside for 20 minutes doing nothing bit.

Christmas was good, we got lots of chocolate between the four of us (three big boxes that people gave all of us and Gill and I each got a Cadbury stocking and a box of Guylian/Chocolate Seashells (there were two different types because they were from our aunty and uncle who are teachers and aren't meant to give us presents now we're adults but they got given so much chocolate by there students they wanted to give it away))

I also got two sets of pyjamas, some CDs and a DVD from gill (yay big cheapo sale at the hall of industry- I only got her one DVD for the same price), some shoes (converse hi tops, surprise surprise), a black pearl necklace dad bought when they were in china (gill got a champagne pearl, apparently they are meant to be the best colours to match our colouring), a calendar and a diary, Nikki gave me an awesome book of the world's worst album covers (at least two of which have been on Spicks and Specks), and I can't remember what else I got, I wasn't meant to be getting much because Dad's paying for half my laptop (which we ordered on saturday, I'm excited), but I seemed to get plenty of pressies anyway.

New years was pretty good except for the $185 fine and 3 demerit points I got for forgetting my P plates and getting pulled over for an RBT.

And that's pretty much it I think except for This meme )

A quote from my work name tag "at Big W we care, our people make the difference" THIS IS A LIE.

Apparently caring is when you call in sick and even offer to get a doctors certificate abusing you for not giving them more notice while you almost crap yourself while on hold, if my manager had actually answered her phone she would have had at least 10 minutes more notice.

Dear Big W service manager, next week I might be sick, probably not, but there is a possibility so I am giving you notice today. I wont know until the actual day of my shift if i am actually sick, especially if it is food poisoning which you have obviously never had if you don't know how quickly it comes on, but obviously that is not enough notice. If this arrangement doesn't suit you I can come to work anyway and you can pay me $16.50 and hour to vomit/defecate all over myself, I need the money and I am currently performing this function free of charge.

Regards,
Megan

See I was actually hoping that I would improve enough to go to work, which is why I only rang half an hour before my shift instead on a hour before when I first got sick, I even got dressed in my uniform and everything, but I couldn't leave the toilet to actually go to work.

Also, I am using the word actually a lot today.

GNI update and random rambling

  • Oct. 1st, 2007 at 6:53 PM

Girls Night in is looking fun although unfortunately not that many people can come but I still haven't heard back from everyone I invited, at the moment there's 5 coming other than me and Gill. Every girl I know is welcome and you can bring friends/sisters/whoever so please get involved.

For More info on GNI... As previously stated it's 6:30 this friday and it's a sleepover.

Bring at least a $5 donation, if you donate $25 or more you go into the draw to win a pink PS2 (which comes with a second controller and memory card) and Singstar 90s with the microphones. I'll be running a couple of games you pay $1 to enter and there are a couple of small prizes to win. Other activities include Pink Scrabble (the breast cancer special edition), girly music, lots of pink (and also some non-pink) food and drink, movies (they're not all chick flicks and everyone's welcome to bring along anything they want to watch).

Here's my non Girls Night in update:
So I've still been very busy with things other than my assignment... so it looks like i will be writing it while on clinical now :(. It seems weird that I'm going on clinical tomorrow I'm not used to still being at home so i somehow feel like i'm not ready for prac since i'm still doing normal things.

Update

  • Sep. 22nd, 2007 at 11:58 AM

So I'm about to catch the assignment-itis bug that everyone else has had over the past couple of weeks- I have a 2500 word psyc essay I'm about to start and also I need to make a brochure and 20 slide powerpoint about a mental illness. They're due in three and four weeks respectively, but realistically I need to have them done by the end of the week becuase I'm going on clinical after that so wont get much other work done.

Speaking of clinical if I hadn't mentioned it before I'm staying local- Newcastle x-ray at Charlestown, so I can still have a social life (not that I have one) having said that I have been out the last three nights, but I don't know if going to a concert with my sister and one of her friends counts, and seeing a movie with my dad definitely doesn't (I finally got to se the Simpsons Movie- we were the only people there LOL).

Girls night in is now almost definitely on the 5th starting at 6:30pm, some more RSVPs would be nice though, any boys that really want to come are also welcome, but they have to dress in pink/as a girl. I'll post some more details soon...

Also, Lake Macquarie Libraries don't have Making Money yet, even in acquisitions :(, and the lady at pages yesterday told me it doesn't come out until the 1st even though Mum saw it at Angus and Robinson.

Girl's night in

  • Sep. 20th, 2007 at 4:14 PM

So I'm organising a Girl's Night In, probably on Friday the 5th of October, who's interested and does that date suit people?

I can change the day, but that's the only week I don't have choir on Friday night, so otherwise Saturday suits me better.

I was thinking $5 entry and I'll possibly have a raffle/other games that cost $1 to play to raise more money. I haven't decided on any other details until I know what day/ who's coming, but It'll be a sleepover with girly movies, dinner and other kool stuff.

Step 2: Pick your favorite lines Move the cursor at a random spot in the song from the first 20 songs that play.

Gemma and Dan if you read this could you please tell me if you can come to my party on Saturday? I'm trying to work out numbers for the games and food although 3 of my uni friends haven't replied either.

Just saw the uni homepage and apparently it's closed until further notice due to substantial damage and they'll assess it fully tomorrow and let us know more. Doesn't really affect my exams because they don't start until the 22nd, but they might have to postpone some and also I have to go there to hand in all my clinical paperwork and to peer mark our poster projects so I don't know what'll happen with that now.

And also I heard on the radio that the avairies a blackbutt have collapsed and all the birds escaped and some of the wallabies have got out too and its closed until further notice.

I am very annoyed at LJ at the moment, as the other day I changed browser to firefox and then couldn't log in becuase of a problem with the page that appears once you log in, namely, that it loaded up as text not HTML (btw. the fact that they included "here have a cookie" in the code cracks me up). I found out exactly what the problem was via Mozillas support board, and lodged a support request here, but they still haven't replied, but they have replied to someone who posted the same problem 5 hours after I did by saying "LiveJournal developers have been notified of this problem and are investigating it. However, it has proven to be very difficult to narrow down the cause of this issue, so it is not known when it will be resolved." YOUR MIME SETTING IS WRONG! READ MY SUPPORT REQUEST AND YOU WOULD FIND THIS OUT. I've only been able to login in now because they recommended that the other user log in via the secure page, which I have now done.

Did you know that on May 12th this year it was both "national loud shirt day" (which raises money for hearing impaired kids), and "wacky hair day" (a fundraiser for the Sydney cancer centre)? I completley missed out on both of them... how sad. The calendar on our toilet door has both of them marked on there, but yet it sadly misses out on the infamous special day that occurs on 19th September.

Btw in case I don't see Nikki or Pete, I'm in for lasertag this week.

Is anyone else having issues with hotmail, or is it just me? After I log in, almost everything I click on dumps me back out to the login screen. I can get into my inbox (but only if I click on "My messages", not "inbox"), but I can't open or delete any e-mails or go to options, and I've got 4 unread e-mails, (three of which I could probably just delete without reading if it let me). I think it might be our new firewall, which initially wouldn't let me download anything because it was blocking all embedded objects and scripts etc,. but that's fixed now.

bah! Updates are for the weak.

I don't have any uni today, but I do have five hours of work :(
Amazingly, when I checked my roster last week, I could find five good points about this situation- At least it didn't clash with anything I had on, I get a break, I'll make a lot of monies, it was a week away (then, anyway), and I don't have to start 'til 1:30. I must've been in a good mood then.
